Time for some Jazz.

Today we have a few tracks from the world of JAZZ, one of the most artistic musical genres ever created. So much of its appeal comes from the improvisational aspect of the music. It takes a HUGE amount of virtuosity to be able to improvise in the way these musicians do with seemingly no effort.

A lot of people, when asked about the greatest jazz album ever released will say “Kind of Blue” by trumpeter Miles Davis. I absolutely love Miles’ music. He changed direction so many times during his career but every corner he went around made a difference in the history of the genre. He was a true musical genius.

This is a track from Kind of Blue. It’s actually the first track on the album and is called So What. It is a real classic.

Another jazz legend is keyboard player Chick Corea. He played with the likes of the aforementioned Miles Davis, guitarist Carlos Santana and many others. He has also led his own bands, one of which is the incredible Return to Forever. In the mid 1970s they released an album called “Romantic Warrior” which fell very heavily in the Jazz Fusion category. This was a melding of Jazz and Rock and was invented, some would say, by Miles Davis in one of his many directional changes..

Here is a track from Romantic Warrior called Sorceress.

Coming back to a more traditional jazz feel we have Canadian singer Diana Krall. She possesses a beautiful voice and is a superb pianist to boot. Here is her singing Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s classic song “The Look Of Love”. It is taken from a concert she did in Paris and is, to my ears, exquisite.

I hope you enjoy the selection.

Keith.
