I have a passion for songs that contain great instrumental sections within them. Most of these are album tracks but some of them have been released as singles. However, in order to make them the requisite 3-4 minute length for a chart single, those releases tend to have had the instrumental breaks edited out. I think that is a real shame because in some cases the feel of the song is changed completely. I know that this type of track are a bit longer than usual but I reckon they are SOOOOOOOOOO good that it’s worth making the effort to listen to the whole thing.
The Doors track Light My Fire, for example, had the entire instrumental section removed when it was released as a single in 1967 but still made it into The UK charts reaching number 49. It actually topped the charts in The USA.
The full album version is a great listen and it is very difficult not to dance along to it. So……go and dim the lights, fire up a…………joss stick, splash on some patchouli oil and get on down with the silky voice and unbelievably good looks of Jim Morrison. You know it makes sense.
C’mon baby……….
