Cinema has been a source of musical entertainment for many, many years.
There was solo piano accompaniment to those amazing silent movies and those great Wurlitzer organs that graced many cinemas even up to the time that I went with my parents for a film treat or to Saturday Morning Pictures. Latterly, we have been treated to huge film scores from the likes of John Williams, Hans Zimmer, John Barry and Howard Shore and, preceding that, film scores by composers who were established in the classical music world such as Leonard Bernstein, André Previn, Erich Korngold, Dmitri Shostakovich and George Gershwin.
I created a list of films and then got the system to pick a few pieces from which I created this list. I also added one of my own as it is one of my all time favourite films…….2001: A Space Odyssey.
I hope there are some of your favourites in here too.
